UNDERSTAND THE RECORD

Look at the original issue date.

The Edmonton feed uses the City’s business licences dataset and its original issue date. The explorer excludes records marked as non-resident businesses. It helps focus research on recently issued Edmonton licences, rather than treating every existing licence as a new company.

Edmonton records can include a business name, category, licence status and business address. The category and licence type add context, but the record alone does not tell you whether a business needs a website, accounting help or IT services. Street addresses identified as home-based are withheld.

A PRACTICAL WAY TO USE THE LIST

Make the list relevant to your work.

1. Choose a useful date range

Choose an original-issue date range and check the source timestamp. A shorter window reduces the list; it does not make the data live.

2. Check the business yourself

An accountant can research a business’s service needs; an IT provider can check whether its size and operations fit their offering. The licence alone cannot answer that.

3. Keep outreach appropriate

Confirm relevance and your legal basis before making contact. A public licence is not consent to marketing. NewBiz Radar does not send outreach for you.

LOCAL LICENCES & FEDERAL RECORDS

Need a wider Alberta search?

Municipal licences and federal registrations describe different events. You can broaden your search to federal records in Alberta, but the federal dataset excludes provincially incorporated companies. Neither source is a complete list of every new business in the province.

Records are refreshed during deployment. Check the coverage page for source dates, available fields and limitations before using the list.
